The initial Catron County Health Profile was developed by Council members under the tutelage of and with financial support from the Improving Health Initiative. Several Council members attended Community Health Initiative Training Institute courses and learned how to prepare the Profile. In 2003 the Profile was updated by the coordinator and the Council chairman, based on new data from Community Meetings and a countywide health survey. For this 2004 update, guidance was obtained from the District III epidemiologist, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention assignee to District III and the Improving Health Initiative contract manager. Once the Profile is updated it is presented to the entire Council for their input and approval. At the Health Council’s annual meeting in April of each year, the Council uses the Profile to help develop a set of health status priorities for the coming year. These health status priorities are reflected in the operational plan.
